As the CEO of Molson I wanted to break down the silo mentality and bring a management group together on the more complex business issues. He did a fantastic job helping us be more specific with our goals and more disciplined about what each area needed to do.
I was amazed at the level of constructive, honest criticism we achieved with one another, yet still keep the destructive emotions in check. There is no doubt that at the end of the process most of our internal energy was focused on the competition out there with a significant reduction in intra-company disputes and wasting of time.
He helped me identify that a CEO has not only a leadership role, but also a leadership responsibility to help people understand their piece of the overall picture and to create an atmosphere where they aren’t afraid to come to me with feedback. That way I can learn to correct the inconsistencies in my leadership to communicate much clearer expectations.
