As a new plant manager, I was scheduled to go away to a leadership school but I wanted something that also involved my staff. So, Rob’s on-the-job process really appealed to me.

What sets him apart is his ability to respond to what is happening in the moment and adjust to the issues and dynamics instead of following a canned program.

I remember one session when Rob helped a union executive and one of my staff really get to the root of a very divisive problem. This became critical to rebuilding trust and getting everyone, regardless of differences, to work more collaboratively. I can tell you people in the plant noticed too because they came in to tell me they really wanted to work there. By building a strong team we were able to exceed our productivity and gain sharing goals.

Rob also brings a totally different perspective on leadership that I had never thought about – being able to consciously put into perspective how I need to manage myself and behave to get the most out of my team. I learned to be more insistent with expectations to balance my eagerness to help. Doing both at the same time makes a huge difference.
