The challenge was to transform every aspect of the nuclear business at Philadelphia Energy with better performance and more disciplined approaches to executing the work.
Rob helped me put together a multi-faceted strategy that put more leadership authority and accountability in the hands of what we called ‘make it happen managers’. He helped mobilize the workforce to interact differently — to pinpoint gaps and have a dialogue to discover solutions instead of blaming others or thinking ‘I have to have all the answers’.
He challenged me to see how in every case my leadership was either a part of the problem or a part of the solution. I learned to ask, ‘what am I bringing that is unique, what’s my impact on others, and how do I most effectively use this knowledge and my leadership to make a difference.’ A huge learning experience for me.
Understanding is one thing, doing something about it is another. Rob’s skills of assessment, diagnosis and strategizing actions to take really counted. I can say without a doubt that the close work and in-depth collaboration with Rob stands out as a personal and professional highlight of my career.
